Using the following foundation steamed pudding recipe, you can create basically any pudding you want by adding certain ingredients, some of which are listed on this page. Be creative!

Ingredients:

  • 1 and a half cups self raising flour
  • 85 grams of butter
  • 85 Grams of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons of milk
  • Vanilla essence

Method:

Sift flour, cream the butter and the sugar, add egg, beat well, add milk and vanilla essence alternately with flour and mix well. Place in greased basin or mould, cover with greased paper. Steam for 1 and a half hours. Serve with a suitable sauce.

Varieties of steamed pudding

College: Place 2 tablespoons of jam in the bottom of the basin before adding foundation mixture.

Canary: Add grated rind of 1 lemon to foundation mixture.

Date: Add 4 oz of chopped dates to foundation mixture.

Fig: Add 3 oz of fig(finely chopped) to foundation mixture.

Chocolate: Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa to the flour,flavour with vanilla essence and add1 tabelspoon extra milk.
